The Hiroo Line, which operated until about 30 years ago, connected Obihiro and Hiroo. The line opened from 1929 to 1932 and contributed to the development of Southern Tokachi by transporting people and cargo until it was discontinued in 1987.
Taiki Station opened in 1930, with the opening of the line between Nakasatsunai and Taiki. At its peak around 1960, the average number of passengers per day was over 1,000.
Tickets from Shinsei Station in Hiroo Town to Taiki Station became popular because they could be taken to mean "a baby grows up healthy and strong and becomes a big tree," and about 20,000 tickets were sold in three months.
However, the number of passengers gradually declined with the spread of automobiles, and the 57-year history of the station came to an end in 1987.
The station building still stands today, but the area where the tracks once stood has been transformed into a space called "Taiki Traffic Park”. Now, you cannot enter the building, but if you look through the window, you can see that the ticket gates and waiting room still remain. The station sign and signal levers are still in place on the platform site.
