Wakasagi fishing is one of Hokkaido's winter events, also known as "anazuri" (hole fishing), a fishing style that makes a hole in the ice surface, drops a fishing line, and waits for a unique bite.
The caught wakasagi can be eaten as a whole fish by tempura or karaage.
